Background
Hilltop school is organised into 2 departments.
The Upper Department caters for students aged 14– 19 and therefore covers Key Stage 4 and Post 16.
Transition between classes and schools are an important time for every child.
At Hilltop School we personalise transition to help our children to successfully manage these changes.
Staff pass on information between classes and children visit their new class base to familiarise themselves with the new environment and new staff. The annual review/Person Centred Review (PCR) also aids a smooth transition. We have 100% retention of students at the end of Keystage 4 who transition to our Post 16 department.
Transition for new pupils transferring from other schools is well managed through consultation with previous schools and parents. This process starts in Y10 with visits to the school pantomime and other events and open days where parents and students visit and find out about the courses on offer. A personalised transition process is implemented to ensure a smooth transition to Hilltop in the summer term before entry.
We draw upon the expertise of the therapy services, Educational Psychologist, Social services and EHCP coordinator.
