Dear Parents and Carers
I would like to invite you to our School Sports Day which will take place on Friday 3rd April 2020,
at the English Institute of Sport (EIS).
This year’s Sports Day will involve pupils from Hilltop, Kelford, Abbey & Pennine View special schools
plus pupils from local primary schools.
There will also be young leaders assisting us from local secondary schools.
Nearly 400 children and young people will be taking part in a range of challenging physical activities.
Sports Day is one of the highlights of the year. It gives our pupils the opportunity to compete in a world class athletics facility and possibly alongside an Olympic Gold Medallist in Jessica Ennis. It creates opportunities for them to work and learn with new and different people, which develops their confidence and teamwork skills, and creates opportunities for them to participate in a range of new activities.
Most importantly, it creates opportunities for our pupils to show us what they can do!
Parents and carers tell us that they really enjoy Sports Day. Being there and seeing what our pupils can do makes people feel enormously proud! I really hope that you will be able to join us, even for part of the day.
You can be as active as you wish, either joining in with your child’s activities (bring trainers) or cheering them on from the spectator areas. It will be a memorable day and by being there you will be helping to make it special for everyone involved.
The day starts at 9:30am and finishes at 3pm. If you require additional directions or a
route map then contact school reception or see map below.
There are hot and cold drinks machines at the venue but nowhere to buy lunch.
Children who have a school dinner will have a suitable lunch provided by the school kitchen.
Children who bring their own packed lunches will do so as normal.
Transporting such a large number of youngsters to an outside venue is quite demanding.
If you are intending on coming to watch and would like to transport your son / daughter to or from the venue then please inform school and your child’s transport operator as soon as possible.
If we do not have a confirmed arrangement by Friday 20th March,
transport operators will collect and drop off your child as normal.
Could I please ask that students travelling on school transport are ready on time, to avoid any delays.
Travel time will be affected on the return journey, meaning your child could be dropped off slightly
earlier or later than normal.
Please ensure you are at home to receive them from school transport if they do arrive earlier.
This is an active sporting occasion in a professional sports arena. It is extremely important that everyone wears suitable footwear (flat shoes or trainers) and clothing (tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, sweatshirt) to take part in sporting activities.
Any Parents who do not wish for their student to be photographed,
please let us know as your student will wear a yellow band on the day.
If you could provide an extra layer of clothing or a blanket for our students in wheelchairs as they
may be less active and could become chilled.
We have organised for our mobile hoist and changing bed to be taken to the EIS, but changing and toileting
will be kept to a minimum on this day as normal toileting programmes will not be possible.
Please be aware that your child will need changing as soon as they arrive home.
If you are coming to watch on the day could we please ask that you DO NOT take any photographs
of general activities happening in the arena, to comply with Child Protection procedures.
You will be allowed to take individual photographs of your child.
We are looking forward to another great sports day and hope you will be able to join us.
If you need to contact us during the day, please contact the school office, 01709 813386,
who will pass the message on.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Claire Rose
