Family Support Worker
My name is Jayne Spalding. I am the new Family Support Worker at Maltby Hilltop School. I have worked with learning disabilities for over 15 years and at Hilltop school for the past 11 years in various different roles. Most recently in post 16
I had responsibility for facilitating person centred reviews, supporting transitions, Y14 interim meetings and work experience. I also covered classes in teacher absence so this enabled me to work across all classes in Hilltop School.
In my role I will be working closely with Vic Harrop who is our parents/carers ambassador who many of you know work with already, Vic has long been a key link for parents between school and other services.
I will also be working alongside Adele Alderson who is parent governor and a teaching assistant at school.
Adele is based down at Redwood School in our inclusion unit and will be the point of contact for parents of students who are based there. Adele has a son with complex needs and a wheelchair user who attends Hilltop. Adele is very experienced in accessing services surrounding P.M.L.D students and issues that can arise.
Vic has 3 sons who have all attended Hilltop School. Vic is very knowledgeable in many areas and regularly assists
parents with form filling, accessing direct payments and support during meetings etc.
I will be based in school 8am to 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. I would like to support students and families by linking them to the best service available to support them. I hope to work with children and families through transition into school as early as possible to enable them to establish good routines and promote positive development and provide continuous support throughout their time at Hilltop school.
I aim to link up with other specialists already working in school together to support communication, behaviour, bedtime, toilet routines, sensory needs, diet and eating patterns .I liaise with the team who support After School Clubs and extended services and can assist with other areas you may need support with.
Please feel free to contact any one of us to support you.
We will also be available to chat to you on any of the chinwag mornings.
We will try our best to answer any questions or queries you have, if we don’t know the answer we will do our very best
to find out for you!
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any additional support. It is vital that these roles provide the level of support that is needed to the young people and families that access our school
