Upper Department
All students are of equal value and therefore are entitled to full access to the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and other broad and relevant opportunities appropriate to their individual needs.
In the Upper Department our chief aim is to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which equips every student with the necessary skills needed for life in and after school in whatever situation they move onto.
At key stage 4 pupils follow a Curriculum with relevant thematic topics covering all the subject areas.
Our 14-19 students learn through functional and practical approaches. This includes PSHE, Functional Skills, Enterprise initiatives, and Work related Learning, A wide range of the qualifications including
ASDAN Personal Progress, PSD E1 and E2, Employability E2, Arts Award – Bronze,
Duke of Edinburgh - Bronze and Silver Vocational units and Functional Skill Qualifications underpin all life learning at Hilltop. Some younger students also follow the ASDAN Transition Challenge.
Above all, the success of the department necessarily demands a good working partnership with parents.
Together we can ensure that all the students enjoy their time in the department and find their teaching and learning opportunities to be -
Realistic, Relevant and Rewarding.
All activities in the department are linked to the 6 strands of the Personal Learning Thinking Skills (PLTS) which are:
Team Worker
Independent Enquirer
Creative Thinker
Effective Participator
Reflective Learner
Self Manager
We believe that the development of skills in all these areas will result in our students becoming as
independent as possible and the best that they can be.
